L'oeuvre gravé d'Hélénon représente son art avec générosité et plénitude. C'est une invitation à la méditation sur l'image humaine et plus singulièrement sur celle du nègre, sa condition, ses attitudes et ses empreintes. L'expression sculptée au carborundum (procédé Goetz), traduit un héritage riche de signes renouvelés à travers les siècles, qui véhicule sève et feu entre la terre et ses racines, la pureté de l'air et l'azur du ciel. Hélénon sait maîtriser ses élans par l'emplacement subtil d'aplats de couleurs domptés de tracés noirs, ses " Masses Morphologiques " qui abritent les palpitations dynamiques, signe de vie structurée autour de la terre, du soleil et des océans. Le rejet de tout artifice par l'emploi cru du bleu, du rouge en contrepoint de masses noires s'inscrit et exprime la condition d'Antillais au gré d'un rythme chargé d'émotivité, au-delà de toute considération esthétique. La force intense, harmonieuse et naturelle de son oeuvre respire la jeunesse d'un art qui a su rester soi-même, qui procède de l'homme et particulièrement de la condition du négro-caraibe.
Sa vision souvent articulée autour de trois gravures rythmées entre elles, invite à la contemplation presque tactile, car l'art d'Hélénon réconcilie l'intelligence, le talent et le pur instinct.
Ce n'est pas un hasard si l'ardeur et la force vitale dégagées des gravures de l'artiste d'origine martiniquaise, rencontrent le même succès en Scandinavie, en France, en Afrique ou aux U.S.A. car elles interpellent la sensibilité au dynamisme créateur de vie.
